Can they do this?

I have worked at my employer since April 2010. I have never been late or called off of work. From last night until noon today our area was under a blizzard warning. I was scheduled to work from 7 am til 1 pm this afternoon. At 10:30 last night my boss called and told me not to worry about coming in in the morning because he wouldn't be opening this morning but he was gonna play it by ear and may open this afternoon depending on the weather. He said he would call me today and let me know if he decided to open. At 9:50 am he called and wanted me at work at 11. I explained I may not be able to get out of my drive because my car was snowed in. He said ok just to let him know. I called work and he wasn't there but his daughter was and I told her I was stuck in the drive. She said she would tell her dad when he got back. My boss ended up calling me and came to pick me up. On the way to work I found out he had stayed open last night til about 10:30 last night (we close at 9pm), mind you around the same time he called me, because there were guys from the electric company staying at the hotels behind us who had been there. When I got to work I found out he had opened this morning, and that he had known when he called me last night that he was going to open, because he had told the guys last night he was going to be open today and he would actually open a little earlier because they had asked him to. So he knew last night when he called me and lied telling me he wasn't going to open this morning, that he really was going to be opening. At 1 when I was scheduled to be off his daughter tells me she is leaving. I was never informed that I was to stay til 4 nor was the schedule ever changed to say that. When I told him I couldn't stay til 4 because my b/f who was home with the kids had to work at 2:45 he told me if I couldnt stay then to find another job.
Can he legaly do this?

What I tried:
1st I tried to figure out somewhere my kids could go so I could stay, but when I started calling he told me it was too late to go. I begged my boss to let me keep my job. I pleaded with him at work, to let me stay. I have 3 kids at home. I called him later this evening and asked again if I could please come to work in the morning, he said no and ---- up on me. I tried calling back and he told the server to tell me he was busy.Later I called work they said he was gone I called his cell and left a voicemail again begging for my job back.
