Hello! I need any assistance or answers I can get in figuring out what I should do. I have a baby on her way at the end of this month, June 2008. She is the child of my ex-girlfriend and mine and I would like to have custody of her. The girlfriend is located in a different state, she moved right after conception. I recently got an email from her stating that she would like to give the baby up for adoption and asked if I would like to help to pick out the family. I replied quickly after, saying that if she is giving the baby up for adoption I would be more than willing to take her and ultimately have full custody. She sent me another email after, saying that there is no way I will have any part in this child's life and that she will be giving the baby to a friend. It was a blood boiling email, if you will. Like I said, the baby is due at the month and I need to get the ball rolling on this case. Unfortunately I don't have the money to pay for an attorney, especially if I need to save for the new child and travel expenses to get her. What steps do I need to take now? Who can I contact to get help? Thanks, I appreciate any feedback!

.I appreciate any feedback! .....

Thus: FIRST THINGS FIRST...for the FUTURE and NOW: THAT is WHY one good reason to always wear a condom, amongst other health reasons.

You have inherent paternal rights to this child, thus under federal/state law SHE cannot adopt the child out without, the father's consent.

You need to call the court in the jurisdiction she is in. Google it, they will help you there. You need to file for an injuction (to stop her giving up the child for adoption) because you as the natural parent, the court will give you first preference.

However, you must have DNA paternity proof that this is your child, so you will also need to contemporaneously file for paternity with the court.

You did not state, what jurisdiction you are in and when this happened.

There is also a national father's right's organization that will help you enormously, I suggest you call them immediately for assistance.

Best, AND DONT FORGET TO WEAR A CONDOM NEXT TIME !!!!
